Frequently Asked Questions

When does the Asilah International Festival take place?
The Asilah International Festival is held each year in July-August (typically 3 weeks). It features giant murals painted on medina walls by artists from around the world, music concerts (gnaoua, jazz, world music), painting and sculpture exhibitions, cultural conferences and street performances. The murals are free to visit year-round. Some events are paid (concerts: 50-200 MAD).
Is Asilah accessible from Tangier?
Yes, Asilah is 45 km south of Tangier (40 min by car via A1). By ONCF train from Tanger Ville station: 45-50 min, from 21 MAD. Shared grand taxi from Tangier: around 30 MAD/person. The town's small size (medina entirely walkable) makes a car optional once there. Many visitors do Asilah as a day trip from Tangier.
What are the best beaches around Asilah?
Paradise Beach: 5 km south of Asilah, 7 km of nearly deserted white sand — the most beautiful. Medina Beach: sandy beach facing the Portuguese ramparts, lively in summer. Sidi Mghayet Beach: 12 km north, calmer, popular with locals. Briech Beach: 20 km south, less known, calm waters ideal for families.
